SERVICES OF PROFESSOR E. I_. BOGART (16) Professor E. L. Bogart of the Department of Economics was retired from active service effective September I, 1938, under the University of Illinois Statutes and the system of retiring allowances then in effect. Members of the staff retired under these Statutes are subject to call by the Board of Trustees for the performance of such duties as shall be assigned to them by the President of the University. Professor Bogart has been given permission to accept part-time employment as Lecturer in Economics at New York University at a small stipend during the past two years. H e again requests permission to accept such appointment for the year 1943-1944. Since his services will not be required by the University of Illinois I have authorized his acceptance of the position at New York University and request confirmation of my action.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, the action of the University in granting Professor Bogart's request was approved and confirmed.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR R. W . BARTLETT

(17) Professor R. W. Bartlett of the Department of Agricultural Economics has requested a leave of absence without pay from August 1, 1943, to June 30, 1944, to carry on studies in marketing for private business enterprises. These studies will deal with war and postwar plans for removing trade barriers in the dairy industry. His selection to make the study is a recognition of his professional standing in the field of agricultural economics and particularly in dairy marketing. Because of reduced enrollment the Department of Agricultural Economics can release him, and Professor Bartlett has no teaching duties in connection with the Army and Navy Training Programs. So far as his University research is concerned, he will be carrying on a research program which is in his professional field and will be serving an important industry. T h e Head of the Department and the Dean of the College recommend approval and I concur.

On motion of Mr. Fornof, this leave was granted as recommended.

LEAVES OF ABSENCE (18) A recommendation that the following leaves of absence be granted members of the staff for the reasons and periods and under the conditions indicated in each case: GARNET RENAKER, Senior Clerk-Typist in the Physical Plant Department, sick leave with pay from May 21 through July 6, 1943, and from August 23 to December 7, 1943, under the rules of the Board, this being in addition to the 15 days' sick leave to which she is entitled under Civil Service regulations. E. R. BERBAUM, Routing Supervisor in the Physical Plant Department, disability leave with pay from June 12 through November 12, 1943, under the rules of the Board, this being in addition to the 15 days' sick leave to which he is entitled under Civil Service regulations. MAURICE W. MURPHEY, employee in the Physical Plant Department, disability leave with pay from July 1 through August 31, 1943, under the rules of the Board, this being in addition to the 15 days' sick leave to which he is entitled under Civil Service regulations. MRS. FRANCES M. MERRITT, Orthopedic Nurse in the Division of Services for Crippled Children, leave without pay from July 15 through October 15, 1943, because of illness. W I L U A K. GARVER, Assistant University Librarian, Acquisitions, disability leave with pay for one month beginning July 28, 1943, under the rules of the Board. KATHRYN JANIE SUTHERLIN, Associate in Music, sick leave' for one year, on full pay for six months from September 1, 1943, provided that any expense to the University resulting from this absence will be deducted from her salary, and on one-half pay for six months from March 1, 1944, without any deductions. This is in accordance with the University of Illinois Statutes. H. CARL OESTERLING, Editor, University Press, sick leave with full pay from August 1 through August 31, 1943, and for one year without pay from September 1, 1943, or until such time as he is able to return to duty.
