Electrical work in steam tunnel and for extension of electrical distribution system (Division "D D") •—Square Deal Electrical Contracting, Inc., Urbana $ 59 043 Plumbing work for steam tunnel (Division " E E") —George S. Walker Plumbing and Heating, Inc., Decatur 11 836 Submitted herewith are supporting statements from the Physical Plant Department listing all bids received and reporting the recommendations of Sargent and Lundy, Chicago, employed by the University for the engineering designs of the construction and equipment installations. Copies of these reports are being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations to the University for 1959-61 subject to release by the Governor. The Governor has announced that no releases of capital appropriations will be approved prior to January, i960, and then only if the State's revenue situation is favorable. Hence, award of these contracts must be contingent upon the release of funds and provided that the contractors will extend the time during which their bids will be firm. The alternative is to reject all bids and advertise for new ones when availability of funds has been assured. I concur. O n m o t i o n o f M r . S w a i n , t h e s e c o n t r a c t s w e r e a w a r d e d , a s recomm e n d e d , b y the following v o t e : A y e , M r . Clement, M r . H e r r i c k , Mr. H u g h e s , M r . ADDITION TO CONTRACT FOR ABBOTT POWER PLANT (26) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend an increase of $5,750 in the contract with General Electric Company, Chicago, to provide for spare parts for the recently installed turbine generator. This would be for a minimum number of parts which should be in stock for repairs so that there will be no unnecessary delays in operations. Funds are available in the state capital appropriations for 1957-59. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . H e r r i c k , t h i s c h a n g e in t h e c o n t r a c t w a s a u t h o r ized. STEAM SERVICE TO HOLY TRINITY PARISH C H U R C H IN CHICAGO (27) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend authorization of a contract with the Holy Trinity Parish Church, 916 South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, for steam service from the Medical Center Steam Company plant to a new church to be constructed in the Medical Center District at the northwest corner of Taylor Street and Wolcott Avenue, this contract to be on the same basis as contracts with other consumers of steam in the District supplied by the Company. The requirements of the church will not exceed 800 pounds per hour maximum demand. Additions to the steam plant now nearing completion will provide enough excess capacity to supply steam to the church. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . J o h n s t o n , this c o n t r a c t w a s a u t h o r i z e d . RESEARCH CONTRACT WITH ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION A N D OFFICE OF NAVAL RESEARCH (28) The Department of Physics requests authority to submit a proposal to the Atomic Energy Commission and/or the Office of Naval Research for support of a research program in elementary particle physics. T h e amount of $889,288 is requested for a two-year period which would provide full reimbursement for all direct and indirect costs, the latter estimated to be approximately $121,000. Space is available in the new Physics Building and elsewhere for this program. I recommend approval and authorization of a contract. O n motion of M r . S w a i n , this contract w a s authorized.
