T h e budget has been examined and approved by the Vice-President and Provost and the Vice-President and Comptroller. A copy has been filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I recommend that this budget be approved and that the President of the University be authorized to make such changes and adjustments, including approval of new appointments and acceptances of resignations, as are necessary and recommended by the Board of Directors of the Athletic Association within the total income realized. APPROPRIATIONS FOR BUILDING AND OTHER PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS (3) The Seventy-first General Assembly of Illinois has appropriated (Senate Bill 858) to the University of Illinois funds for the biennium of 1959-61 for the following buildings and permanent improvements: For Permanent Improvements at Urbana-Champaign: For construction of extensions to the general University utilities distribution systems, including plans and specifications, and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work. .$2 135 000 For additions to the Power and Heating Plant, with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work 3 665 000 For construction, together with funds received from private gifts, of a Labor and Industrial Relations Building with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications, extension of utilities to the building, and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work 330 000 For the University's share of public improvement projects initiated by municipal corporations and any other costs and charges incurred by the University in connection with such projects 425 000 For completion of the first unit of the Physics Building, with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications, and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the w o r k . . 220 000 For completion of the first unit of the Art and Architecture Building with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications, and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work 115 000 For Permanent Improvements at Urbana-Champaign and Chicago: For health research facilities, for which matching funds are received from the federal government, with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications, extension of utilities to the buildings, and all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work 800 000 For rehabilitation and remodeling of and minor additions to existing buildings, with fixed equipment installed, including plans and specifications, with all other necessary costs and charges incident to the completion of the work 1 775 000 For plans, specifications, and preliminary studies for permanent improvements planned for construction during 1961-63 500 000 For land at Urbana-Champaign 450 000 For land in Cook County for the establishment of a permanent undergraduate division 925 000
