BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[June 14

event that the capital appropriations are available at the time of delivery of possession^ the University will make the purchase directly. T h e Committee on Buildings and Grounds has previously considered this proposal and recommends approval.

On motion of Mr. Hughes, the purchase of this farm by the University of Illinois Foundation for the University was authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.

PURCHASE OF LAND ADJOINING ROBERT ALLERTON PARK (31) T h e Vice-President and Comptroller recommends the purchase by the University of approximately twenty acres of land adjoining Robert Allerton P a r k at its southwest corner. The owner, Mrs. Edith Widick, has agreed to sell this area of land at a price of $75 an acre. I t is recommended that this purchase be authorized, at the price indicated, from funds in the Allerton House Operations account which will be reimbursed from a grant which Mr. Robert Allerton has generously offered to make for this land acquisition. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Pogue this purchase was authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.

PURCHASE OF HARLAN E. MOORE PROPERTY AT ARMORY AVENUE AND T H E ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD, CHAMPAIGN (32) T h e Director of the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller recommend the purchase for the University by the University of Illinois Foundation of the H a r l a n E. Moore property located north of Armory Avenue and bounded by the Illinois Central Railroad to the west and Oak Street to the east. The property consists of a land area of 38,000 square feet and two, two-story lumber storage buildings which have a total floor area of 44,500 square feet. The land will be needed eventually for the expansion of the Power Plant. In the meantime the buildings can be remodeled and used to good advantage for the relocation of the University's Central Receiving Station, to which materials for stock are delivered, and for housing the Office Supply Store, thus releasing space on the campus needed for other purposes. Independent appraisals of this property by two real estate experts indicate a valuation of $68,000 to $70,000. The owner's asking price was originally $80,000 but he has agreed to accept $70,000. It is recommended that the Board of Trustees authorize the University of Illinois Foundation to purchase this property for the University and the lease of this property from the Foundation by the University until such time as funds are available for purchase by the University. A supporting recommendation from the Physical Plant Department is submitted herewith and is being filed with the Secretary of the Board for record. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, the purchase of this property and its lease from the University of Illinois Foundation were authorized by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Clement, Mr. Harewood, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Swain, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Wilkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stratton.
