Research and Educational Hospitals, of the remaining personnel, and the equipment and operation of the research and educational activities of the psychiatric division of the Institute. T h e Department shall provide equipment and maintenance of the division, together with the maintenance of the patients and the resident personnel. In the operation of the division of Neurology and Neurological Surgery of this Institute, it is agreed that appointment and compensation of the medical and scientific staff shall devolve on the University as described above in the first sentence of Section 2, Article I I I . T h e Department shall provide equipment and maintenance of the division, together with the maintenance of the patients and resident personnel. Patients for admission to the Neuropsychiatric Institute shall be selected by the University from any available source, including, with the approval of the Department, patients committed to the State Hospitals under the control of the Department. T h e Department, on request of the Director of the Institute, shall arrange for transfer of patients in both directions between the Institute and the State Hospitals. Proposed by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois this 27th day of January, 1940.

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (49) The following report of gifts received by the University since the last report: 1. United Engineering Trustees, $870 to the College of Engineering for research on the weldability of steels. 2. Commonwealth Edison Company, a three-kilowatt Pittsburgh transformer for the Department of Chemistry. 3. Anonymous donor, $1,200 for a Research Graduate Assistantship in the Engineering Experiment Station to be employed on the research project, " P r e s sures in Granular Materials," during the academic years 1940-1041 and 1941-1942. 4. Commonwealth Edison Company, induction regulators for the Department of Physics to be used in connection with the new cyclotron project. 5. Carnegie Corporation of New York, $7,500 to the University Library School for a study of public library administration under the direction of Dr. E. W . McDiarmid. 6. Dr. Abbott Morton (Class of 1906), Stuart, Florida, a Chinese skirt which is an example of very fine ancient handicraft, for the University Museum. This was presented to the University of Illinois Foundation which has turned it over to the University. 7- Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, $500 in cash and specimens of ma-
