AMENDMENT O F AGREEMENT WITH DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE RELATING TO OPERATION O F RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS (47) P u r s u a n t to the action of the Board on January 27, 1940, the following proposal for an amendment of the agreement with the Department of Public Welfare relating to the operation of the research and educational hospitals was submitted to the Director of the Department and h a s been accepted by him:

AMENDMENT OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES or THE UNIVERISTY OF ILLINOIS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF P U B L I C WELFARE OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, PROVIDING FOR THE OPERATION OF THE RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALS OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS

T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at a regular meeting held on January 27, 1040, approved an amendment of Article I I I , Section 5, of the agreement between said Board of Trustees and the Department of Public Welfare of the State of Illinois relating to the operation of the Research and Educational Hospitals of the State of Illinois as authorized by an act of the 57th General Assembly of the State of Illinois approved July 3, 1931. T h e Board of Trustees proposes that Section 5 of Article I I I of said agreement be amended to read as follows: Section 5. Because the Department is basically concerned with problems of nervous, mental, and behavioral disorders, it is agreed that the Department erect and maintain a Neuropsychiatric Institute on the Chicago campus ofi the University, for teaching and research in this field of medicine. This Institute shall be considered an expansion of the existing Psychiatric Institute of the Illinois Research and Educational Hospitals, and shall be composed of two divisions; a division of Psychiatry, under the direction of the Department of Psychiatry of the University; and a division of Neurology and Neurological Surgery, under the direction of the Department of Neurology and Neurological Surgery of the University. In the activities of the psychiatric division of this Institute the Department plans to enlist the cooperation of other medical schools in Chicago in addition to that of the University. It is agreed that in the operation of this division the University shall provide one professor of psychiatry who shall act as Director, together with at least one secretary and three residents, and such other scientific staff as may be agreed upon by the Department and the University.
