I recommend that action on Item 1 be deferred pending a study and complete estimate of the cost of this improvement. T h e Physical Plant Department will restore to their former condition all tennis courts which have been damaged by the construction of the Power Plant tunnel, and this restoration will be completed before the tennis courts in front of the Old Gymnasium can be reconstructed. Sufficient funds are available in the treasury of the Athletic Association to meet these appropriations. As of April 10 its unassigned surplus amounted to $30,062.54.

On motion of Mr. Mayer, action on Item 1 was deferred, and the assignments for Items 2, 3, 4, and 5 were approved.

At the present time students ranking in the upper twenty-five per cent of their graduating classes are admitted without reference to majors and minors and without reference to the requirement of ten units from the fields of English, foreign language, mathematics, science, and social studies. Under the proposed plan students in the upper fifty per cent must present nine units from English, foreign language, mathematics, science, and social studies, but need not adhere to the majors and minors. It will be recalled that the Board has already approved the paragraph re-
