A RESOLUTION APPROVING EXTENSION OF T I M E ON CONTRACTS • ON PROJECT ILLINOIS 1745-F

Whereas, English Brothers, the general contractor, Phillips, Getschow Company, the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning contractor, Wadeford Electric Company, electrical contractor, Arthur W. Murray Company, plumbing contractor, and Westinghouse Electric Elevator Company, elevator contractor, on Project 1745-F, the Illini Union Building, were delayed for a period of forty-one days in the prosecution of their work, through a strike effective January 2 through February 12, 1940, by the United Association of Journeymen Plumbers and Steam Fitters of the United States and Canada, and have applied to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for an extension of time within which to complete their contracts; and Whereas, the general contractor was delayed ten days beyond the period of the strike called by the plumbers and steam fitters due to the necessity of rescheduling delivery of materials previously ordered, and which delay even at this date is difficult to estimate accurately; and Whereas, the general contractor was delayed twenty days in the prosecution of his work due to a strike in the stone q u a r r y ; and Whereas, the general contractor was delayed twelve days in the prosecution of his work resulting from the failure of delivery of special face brick as previously agreed; and Whereas, the status of the work and the condition of their contracts on this project are as outlined on the attached statements; Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the aforesaid applications for an extension of time within which to perform their contracts, in accordance with the provisions of Article 53 of the General Conditions and Specifications, which constitute a part of the contract, relating to exoneration of the contractor for delays due to strikes and other causes beyond his control, be and the same are hereby granted and the time is extended eighty-three days, but shall not be effective until notified in writing by the Architect. A t this point, P r e s i d e n t M a y e r r e q u e s t e d M r . P o g u e to preside, and withdrew. W . P . A . GRANT FOR REMODELING OF BUILDINGS IN CHICAGO (16) T h e W o r k s Progress Administration has made an allocation of $62,080 for alterations to the Pharmacy Buildings in Chicago. This will provide for the remodeling of the old Bakers' Building for use by the Physical Plant Department as a service building, and the remodeling of the present College of Pharmacy Building for use as a student-faculty-alumni center, in accordance with policies already approved by the Board.

POLICIES FOR STUDENT HOUSING (17) T h e Advisory Committee on Housing 1 recommends the adoption of the following policies relating to the sanitary inspection of fraternities, sororities, cooperative houses, boarding clubs, and other student houses. I. The comprehensive long-term student housing policy of the University shall include housing of all undergraduate and graduate students not residing with parent, guardian, or relative. Such students shall be required to live in places that have been approved for this purpose, unless they have permission from the Division of Student Housing to reside elsewhere. All approved houses shall meet the standards established in accordance with the policy stated herein.
