A RESOLUTION APPROVING EXTENSION OF T I M E ON CONTRACTS ON PROJECT ILLINOIS 1962-F

Whereas, t h e W . E . O'Neil Construction Company, general contractor, Anderson Electric Company, electrical contractor, Robert Gordon, Inc., heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning contractor, Economy Plumbing and Heating Company, plumbing contractor, and Montgomery Elevator Company, elevator contractor, on Project 1962-F, Gregory Hall, were delayed in t h e prosecution of their work, through a strike effective on January 2, 1940, by the United Association of Journeymen Plumbers and Steam Fitters of the United States and Canada, and have applied to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois for an extension of time within which to complete their contracts; and Whereas, the strike above mentioned has been terminated and the men returned to work on February 12, 1940; and Whereas, the general contractor was delayed in the prosecution of his contract for a period of thirty-two days due to a strike in the stone quarry; and Whereas, the general contractor was delayed four days in the prosecution of his work due to failure on the part of the heating contractor to have equipment completed for temporary heating, as previously agreed t o ; and Whereas, all construction contracts a r e inter-related and dependent on each other as to time of completion; and Whereas, the status of the work and the condition of their contracts on this project a r e as outlined on t h e attached statements; Now, therefore, be it resolved, that t h e aforesaid applications for an extension of time within which to perform their contracts, in accordance with the provisions of Article 53 of the General Conditions and Specifications, wrhich constitute a part of the contract, relating to exoneration of the contractor for delays due to strikes and other causes beyond his control, be and the same are hereby granted and the time is extended seventy-seven days, but shall not be effective until notified in writing by the Architect. A RESOLUTION REQUESTING EXTENSION OF T I M E ON PROJECT COMPLETION D A T E FOR ILLINOIS 1745-F

Whereas, Project 1745-F sponsored by the University of Illinois has been delayed through strikes and other causes as enumerated below, and the contractors thereon having applied to and received from the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois an extension of eighty-three days within which to complete their contracts, as evidenced by the attached resolutions this day adopted by the Board of Trustees and made a part hereof; and Whereas, the delay in the prosecution of the work on this project due to the strikes and other causes described in the resolutions and hereinafter enumerated was not due to any act or omission on the part of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois; and Whereas, t h e Board of Trustees of t h e University of Illinois has spent much time and money in continuous endeavors to bring about a settlement of the strikes and a resumption of the work on t h e project above described; and Whereas, such delay has been due to the following: ( a ) A strike effective on January 2, 1040, by t h e United Association of Journeymen Plumbers and Steam Fitters of the United States and Canada, terminated on February 12, 1940, on a two-day notice, resulting in a loss of forty-one calendar d a y s ; ( b ) T h e general contractor was delayed for a period of ten days beyond the period of t h e strike called by the plumbers and steam fitters due to the necessity of re-scheduling delivery of materials previously ordered; (c) T h e general contractor was delayed for a period of twenty days in the prosecution of his work due to a strike in the stone q u a r r y ; ( d ) T h e general contractor was delayed for a period of twelve days in the prosecution of his work due to the failure of delivery of special face brick; Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the University of Illinois hereby applies
