COMPTROLLER'S REPORT OF CONTRACTS (17) A report of a contract executed by the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board.

GIFT OF MR. A N D MRS. MERLE J . TREES (18) In accordance with the terms of the resolution of the Executive Committee of the Board adopted December 18, 1937 (Minutes, page 587), Mr. and Mrs. Merle J. These paintings are to be added to the "Emily Nichols Trees (Class of 1905) and Merle Jay Trees (Class of 1907) Collection" which was started by them in 1937.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, this gift was accepted, and the President of the University was requested to send the donors an expression of the Board's deep appreciation.

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (19) A report of the following gifts received by the University since the last report. 1. Eli Lilly and Company, $750 for an additional Research Fellowship in Chemistry for the year 1939-40. 2. Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company, $400 for additional research on steel brake shoes by the Engineering Experiment Station. 3. American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, $525 for additional air conditioning research by the Engineering Experiment Station. 4. Nutrition Research Laboratories, $150 for additional vitamin D research. 5. Mineral Point Zinc Company, $67.45, in addition to amounts previously reported from this Company for an investigation into a disease in colts to be carried on by the Agricultural Experiment Station, the Company to pay all expenses of the experimentation as determined by the University.

BIDS ON POWER AND HEATING PLANT (20) A report that bids on the new Power and Heating Plant will be opened at the office of Sargent and Lundy, in Chicago, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January

10, 1040.
