paign, in Champaign County, Illinois, except the East Sixty-six feet thereof; it being the intention by this deed to convey any and all overrun legally a part of the above Lot 207 that came about in the platting of the above subdivision.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, the above resolution was adopted, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Cleary, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Karraker, Mr. Mayer, Mr. Moschel, Mrs. Plumb, Mr. Pogue; no, none; absent, Mr. Adams, Mr. Horner, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Wieland. The President and the Secretary of the Board signed the quit-claim deed as authorized.

EXTENSION OF AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATIONS (14) A report of the approval of an agreement for cooperative investigations with the American Dry Milk Institute for a study of the utilization by animals of the calcium of whole milk and of liquid and dried skim milk and their values as sources of calcium in the diet in comparison with other high calcium foods, for ten months beginning September 1, 1939. In extending this agreement it has been revised to provide that funds not needed for the employment of personnel may be used for supplies and equipment. T h e Institute agrees to pay the University $265 in addition to the balance of $1,575 which was available in the fund for this investigation as of July I, 1939.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, this action was confirmed.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (15) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. T w o Guernsey cows for the Dairy Herd, from H . C. Horneman, Danville, Illinois, at a price of $1,000, pursuant to negotiations between him and the Department of Dairy Husbandry. 2. Acids for the General Chemical Stores— 1500 lbs. Acetic Acid (Reagent) 4500 lbs. Hydrochloric Acid (Reagent) 2800 lbs. Nitric Acid (Reagent) 5850 lbs. Sulfuric Acid (Reagent) 1400 lbs. Ammonium Hydroxide (Reagent) i860 lbs. Hydrochloric Acid (Commercial) 4500 lbs. Sulfuric Acid (Commercial) from E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Grasselli Chemicals Department, the low bidder, on their quotation of $1,885.64. 3. One recording photo-electric spectrophotometer with accessories from the General Electric Company at a price of $3,625 f.o.b. Schenectady, New York. This is a non-competitive item and can be procured only from this company. The Board at its last meeting made a special appropriation of $5,000 for this equipment.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, these purchases were authorized as recommended.

REPORT OF DEATH BENEFITS PAID (16) A report that the Comptroller has been authorized to pay the death benefits to the beneficiaries of the following members of the staff in accordance with the University Statutes and the terms of their employment: 1. John J. Pieper, Professor of Crop Production, Department of Agronomy —$2,000. Professor Pieper was in the active service of the University from September I, 1917, until the date of his death, November 26, 1939. 2. William B. Quinn, employee in the Physical Plant Department—$698. Mr. Quinn was in the active service of the University from August 10, 1008, until his death on December 4, 1939.
