1939] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS 621 APPROPRIATION FOR OFF-CAMPUS SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS (4) On May 26, 1939 (Minutes, page 325), the Board authorized the establishment of a supervision service to safeguard the morals, health, finances, and reputation of the student body. This includes certain off-campus police and investigational activities which have been placed under the Physical Plant Department. T h e Director estimates the cost of this service will be $9,360 a year. There is available $5,700 in the budget of the Division of Student Housing which can be transferred to the Physical Plant Department. T h u s a supplementary appropriation of $3,660 is necessary to cover the cost of this service during the current academic year. On motion of Mr. Jensen, this transfer was authorized and the appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Cleary, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Mayer, Mr. Moschel, Mrs. Plumb, Mr. Pogue, Mr. Wieland; no, none; absent, Mr. Adams, Mr. Horner, Mr. Karraker, Dr. Meyer. AWARD OF CONTRACTS FOR EQUIPMENT FOR GREGORY HALL AND ADDITIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY AND MCKINLEY HOSPITAL (5) On October 9 the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees awarded contracts for equipment for Gregory Hall and the additions to the University Library and McKinley Hospital, P.W.A. Project, No. 111. 1062-F, as follows, the award being made to the lowest bidder in each case: Group I—Rubber mats, fire extinguishers, vacuum cleaner, trucks, portable blackboards, mopping units, waste paper baler, step ladders, fiber waste baskets, stools on casters, mirrors, first aid cabinets, soap containers, projection screens— Beckley-Cardy Company, Chicago $ 1 307 90 Group II—Individual study tables, press tables, typewriter desks, work tables, seminar tables, teachers' desks, library tables, card catalog file, table for morgue, tilting top tables, straight chairs, side chairs, reference desks, costumers, counters for Journalism, swivel chairs, instructors' stands, speakers' stands— W. B. Read and Company, Bloomington Group III—Bulletin boards, counters, cork and linoleum floor, insect screens—No bids were received on items in this Group, probably because of the grouping of the items. T h e Physical Plant Department is preparing new specifications. Group I V — W o r k desks, lockers, counter, steel files, steel cabinets, library shelving, metal storage shelving, nurses' desks, chairs, waste baskets— Marshall Field and Company, Chicago Group V—Double dissolving stereopticon, carbon arc spotlight, film projectors, Mazda lamps, attic spotlights, public address system, intercommunicating system, theatre sound reproducing equipment, picture screen— Garland B. Fletcher, Urbana Group VI—Window shades, Venetian blinds, aisle carpet—On recommendation of the Director of the Physical Plant Department these bids were rejected when it was found the specifications practically restricted the bidding to one firm.
