PATENT OF CONTAINER FOR LIQUIDS (36) The Secretary of the Board reports that he has received U. S. Letters Patent No. 2151727, dated March 28, 1939, and valid for seventeen years from that date, issued to the Board of Trustees as assignee of Lloyd Arnold, on improved containers for liquids.

EXTENSION OF AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATION W I T H AMERICAN POTASH INSTITUTE (37) A report of the extension or renewal of an agreement for a cooperative investigation, the agreement having been approved by the Board of Trustees, with the American Potash Institute, to study the interaction of soils with potassium salts added thereto and the availability to growing plants of the resulting forms of potassium. This agreement is to be extended to August 31, 1941, with provision for termination on six months written notice, and the Institute has increased its grant from $500 to $1,200 a year. The agreement originally became effective beginning September 1, 1938.

COOPERATIVE INVESTIGATION OF PRODUCTION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF HYBRID CORN AND PARENT SEED STOCKS (38) A recommendation for approval of an agreement with the Independent Hybrid Producers of Illinois, Incorporated, of Pekin, for a cooperative investigation to study the production and characteristics of hybrid corn and parent seed stocks to be carried on by the Agricultural Experiment Station. The agreement is drawn for a period of one year beginning June 1, 1939, with provisions for its extension and the cooperating agency agrees to provide $900 for the expenses of the investigation. The agreement conforms in all respects to the policies and rules of the Board relating to such investigations.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, this agreement was authorized.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (39) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Delivery truck, one ton (to replace 1934 Dodge truck), from the International Harvester Company, the lowest bidder, at a net price of Jl.388.93, after deducting allowance for old truck. 2. 207 cases Pyrex Laboratory Glassware for stock in the General Chemical Storeroom, from Schaar and Company, Chicago, at a cost of approximately $3,200. This is a non-competitive item as Pyrex Laboratory Glassware is sold only through jobbers a t prices fixed by the manufacturer. The lowest price applies to orders for lots of 100 or more cases.

On motion of Mr. Adams, these purchases were authorized.

PURCHASE AUTHORIZED (40) A report of the emergency purchase authorized by the President of the University under the Statutes, of nursery stock from Henry Kohankie & Son, Painesville, Ohio, the low bidder, at a price of $1,000 for the lot. O n m o t i o n of M r . J e n s e n , t h i s a c t i o n w a s c o n f i r m e d . REPORT OF DEATH BENEFITS PAID (41) A report that the Comptroller has been authorized to pay the death benefits to the beneficiaries of the following members of the staff in accordance with the University Statutes and the terms of their employment: 1. Regis Michaud, Professor of Romance Languages—$2,502.00. Professor Michaud was in the active service of the University from September I, 1930, until his death on February 7, 1939.
