BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Chairperson, Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Urbana

(9) T h e chancellor at Urbana-Champaign, after consultation with the dean of College of Education, has recommended the appointment of P. David Pearson, presently professor of elementary and early childhood education and in the Center for the Study of Reading, as chairperson of the department beginning August 2 1 , 1984, on a twelve-month service basis. Appropriate salary adjustment will be determined at the time of the preparation of the 1984-85 budget. Dr. Pearson will continue to hold the rank of professor on indefinite tenure. He will succeed Muriel Saville-Troike who has been serving as acting chairperson. T h e nomination is made with the advice of a search committee' and endorsed by the department's Executive Committee. T h e vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of D r . D o n o g h u e , t h i s a p p o i n t m e n t w a s a p p r o v e d .

Appointments to the Faculty

(10) T h e following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of assistant professor and above, and certain administrative positions, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated. A — Indefinite tenure N — Term appointment not eligible to be appointed for an indefinite term and not credited toward probationary period Q — Initial term appointment for a professor or associate professor T — Terminal appointment accompanied with or preceded by notice of non reappointment W — One-year appointment subject to special written agreement Y — Twelve-month service basis 1-7 — Indicates the number of years of service which will be credited at the end of the contract period toward completion of the probationary period relating to tenure. Figures following a symbol indicate percentage of time if the appointment i» on a part-time basis (e.g., N75 means one year on three-fourths time).

Urbana-Champaign

1. R O Y R. CRAWFORD, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, beginning August 21, 1984 ( 1 ) , at an annual salary of $35,500. 2. JESSY W. GRIZZLE, assistant professor of electrical engineering, on 75 percent time, and research assistant professor in the Coordinated Science Laboratory, on 25 percent time, beginning January 6, 1984 (N) (on leave of absence without pay second semester 1983-84 and first semester 1984-85), at an annual salary of $36,000. 3. JOHN F. LALANDE, assistant professor of German, beginning August 21, 1984 (1), at an annual salary of $23,000.
