$ 25 083 T h e redecorating work will require the purchase of lumber and the construclion of scaffolding. In this connection the Director of the Physical Plant Department reports that sectional steel scaffolding can be purchased for not to exceed $8,800. Such equipment can be used in other buildings and on the basis of rental prices quoted by one of the manufacturers it would pay for itself in eight rentals. There are at least that many buildings in which redecorating and remodeling should be done next summer, if funds are available, and for which such sectional steel scaffolding could be used. If the work on the Auditorium is to be done, it must be dovetailed with the uses of the building and the only possible time during the University year is between December 8 and January 5. If the Board wishes to authorize these improvements it should be done at this meeting so that orders for the necessary materials can be placed immediately.

This matter was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds for consideration and report.

It was necessary to act promptly on these bids in order not to delay the construction of this building and the Physical Plant Department was therefore authorized to award the contract to the Champaign Plumbing and Heating Company on their base bid of $1,470, and the Gilbert and Barker Manufacturing Company on their base bid of $1,055, these being the lowest bidders in each case.
