buildings, and in view of the fact that part of the funds for the construction of the Student Center Building would come from alumni, an outside architect be employed as consulting architect on this building and that he be an alumnus of the University. H e further recommends that the following committee be appointed immediately to select such a consultant for recommendation to the B o a r d : Mr. Charles Wham, President of the Alumni Association; Mr. Ralph Chapman, President of the University Foundation; Mr. Carl Stephens, Director of Alumni Relations; Dean Rexford Newcomb, Dean of the College of Fine and Applied A r t s ; and Mr. E. L. Stouffer, Assistant Supervising Architect in the Physical Plant Department. It is also necessary that a site for this building be selected immediately so that the plans and working drawings may be started as soon as possible. If funds for this building become available through a grant and loan from the Federal Government it is important that the University be in a position to proceed with the construction with the least possible delay.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, this recommendation was adopted.

N E W APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSORIAL RANK (3) A report of the appointment to the staff of Daniel Dunn Feder, Assistant Director of the Personnel Bureau in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Assistant Professor of Psychology, at an annual salary of $3,300, beginning July 1, 1938. T h i s report w a s received for record. RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR J O H N A. GOFF (4) A report that John A. Goff, Professor of Thermodynamics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has resigned, effective September I, 1938, to accept a position as Whitney Professor and Director of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the T o w n e Scientific School at the University of Pennsylvania. T h i s report w a s received for record. DEATH OF DR. HENRY TURMAN BYFORD (5) A report of the death of Dr. H e n r y T u r m a n Byford, Professor of Gynecology, Emeritus, on June 5, 1938. N o death benefit is payable in this case, as Doctor Byford was a member of the non-salaried clinical staff of the College of Medicine.

APPOINTMENTS TO ALLERTON TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIPS (6) A report that Messrs. Alexander Kouzmanoff and Ronald Porteous have been appointed to the two Allerton American Traveling Scholarships for the summer of 1938.

LEAVES OF ABSENCE (7) T h e recommendation that the following leaves of absence be granted members of the staff for the reasons and periods and under the conditions indicated in each case. 1. Mrs. Mildred C. Barber, clerk and stenographer in the Department of Architecture, one month sick leave with full pay beginning the latter part of June, in addition to the usual vacation allowance of one month with pay. Mrs. Barber has been in service for ten years, during which time she has had no previous sick leave. 2. H . W . Bryant, Assistant in Animal Nutrition, leave of absence from April 26 to May 16 with pay, on account of illness.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, these leaves were granted as recommended.
