13. University of Illinois Library School Association, an additional $300 for the Katherine L. Sharp Scholarship in Library Science. 14. An anonymous donor, $175 to be applied to the publication of Volume II of Professor George A. Miller's works to make possible the inclusion therein of a new manuscript of "Primary Facts in the History of Mathematics." 15. St. Louis Illinae Club, an additional $101 for its Student Loan Fund. 16. The National Auxiliary of the United Spanish War Veterans, Department of Illinois, a $50 scholarship to be awarded to the outstanding secondyear basic-course cadet in Pershing Rifles, selected according to regulations of the Military Department. 17. Governor Henry Horner, a life mask of Abraham Lincoln and a set of the cast of his hands copied from the original by Volk. 18. Mrs. Charles B. Watkins, Class of 1899, 19 volumes of ea-rly and rare editions of English and American literature, and an autograph of O. O. McIntyre, to the University Library. 19. A portrait of the late Mrs. E. C. Schmidt, painted by Richard E. Hult, and presented to the University by a group of Mrs. Schmidt's friends, to be hung in the Woman's Building. Prior to her marriage to Professor E. C. Schmidt, Head of the Department of Railway Engineering, Mrs. Schmidt was Miss Violet Delille Jayne and was the first Dean of Women at the University of Illinois. 20. General Motors Corporation (Buick Motor Division) one hydraulic automobile brake (valued at $15) for demonstration purposes in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. 21. The George Davis Bivin Foundation, Incorporated, an additional $15 in cash prizes for the best papers on certain problems in Psychology. 22. Charles H. Albers, Receiver, University State Bank, $6.83 dividend on Consolidated Student Loan Fund. 23. Mrs. Agnes Chase, of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, a copy of an antiquated but important paper on the mosses of Illinois by the Reverend E. J. Hill. The University purchased Mr. Hill's herbarium about twenty-five years ago, and his paper is a valuable supplement to the collection. 24. A Committee representing friends and colleagues of the late Dr. Harry A. Singer, $1,000 for the purpose of creating a collection of books to be known as the Harry A- Singer Memorial Collection. 25. Professor and Mrs. Arthur M. Buswell, one share of American Telephone and Telegraph stock, the annual dividends to be used for the purchase of books for the University High School Library unless and until the Board of Trustees deems it advisable to put these funds to a more appropriate use, as a memorial to their late son Arthur, who was a student in the High School. 26. Rohm and Haas Company, of Philadelphia, Manufacturing Chemists, $4,600 to establish one post-doctoral fellowship with a stipend of $2,000, and four research assistantships with stipends of $650 each, for research work in the Department of Chemistry during the year 1938-1939.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (14) A recommendation that the purchase of two Rebuilt 35 mm. Simplex Sound Film Projectors, for installation in the Auditorium, from the National Theatre Supply Company, Chicago, whose quotation is the lowest, at a price of $1,841.30, be authorized.

On motion of Mr. Karraker, this purchase was authorized.

DEATH BENEFITS (15) A report of the deaths of the following retired members of the staff, and the death benefits which the Comptroller has been authorized to pay the designated beneficiaries: I. Ben Scholfield, employee of the Physical Plant Department—$237. Mr. Scholfield was in the active service of the University from January 23, 1923, until his retirement, January 23, 1938. He died on February 4, 1938.
