264 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [ M a y 13 Senate April 7, 1937, has given its assent to the provisions of an act of Congress approved June 29, 1935 (Public—No. 182—74th Congress), providing additional Federal funds for research into basic laws and principles relating to agriculture and t o provide for the further development of cooperative agricultural extension work and the more complete endowment and support of land-grant colleges. A certified copy of this resolution has been sent to the United States Department of Agriculture and a certified copy is being handed to the Secretary of the Board for record. This report was received for record. UNIVERSITY AUDITORIUM REPAIRS (21) A statement concerning the repairs to the Auditorium. Mr. Adams stated that the Committee on Buildings and Grounds was not ready to report on this matter. BIDS ON EQUIPMENT FOR MEDICAL A N D DENTAL BUILDING (22) A schedule of bids on the fixed laboratory equipment for the second unit of the Medical and Dental College Laboratories Building, opened May 12, 1937. Sum of items # 1 and # 4 283 274 77 27 927 99 255 346 78 On motion of Mrs. Plumb, the decision on the award of contracts for this equipment was withheld until the bids for dental equipment are received, and the entire matter can be restudied, and the Comptroller was authorized to return the certified checks to the higher bidders. SCHOLARSHIPS IN CERAMICS, AGRICULTURE, AND HOME ECONOMICS (23) In accordance with the instructions of the Board a t its meeting on May 3, consideration has been given to the advisability of discontinuing the issuance of new scholarships in Ceramic Engineering and of suspending for the biennium of 1937-1939 the issuance of new scholarships in Agriculture and Home Economics. The following is a summary of the statements presented by the Registrar, the Dean of the College of Engineering, and the Dean of the College of Agriculture who were consulted concerning these proposals: A. General Statements 1. Announcement of all scholarships is made in the Annual Register, and the new edition has recently been published and is being distributed. 2. During the current University year the Registrar's Office and other offices have answered many inquiries about undergraduate scholarships and, of course, have given very specific information concerning the three types of scholarships in question.
