PURCHASE OF PASSENGER AUTOMOBILES FOR AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICE (18) The Comptroller and Purchasing Agent submit the following prices secured for the annual replacement of cars for the Agricultural Extension Service, these purchases to be made entirely from Federal funds: Allowancefor E. The Director of the Agricultural Extension Service requests that in view of the small difference in price the Ford cars be purchased for the reason that the Department has used Ford cars for several years and the Director believes it is an advantage, from the standpoint of safety and convenience, for the members of the Extension staff to use cars to which they have become accustomed.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, the purchase of Ford automobiles was authorized as recommended.

PURCHASE OF SECURITIES

Dr. Meyer, for the Finance Committee, presented the following report:

T h e Comptroller reports the purchase of the following securities in accordance with the authorization of the Board of Trustees: $5,000 Inland Steel Company, first 3$4%< due 1961 at 102X $4,000 Chicago Union Station, first, Series E, $M% at I04>ij $1,000 Chicagp Union Station, first, Series E, sH% a t I 0 5 He also reports the call as of May 1, 1937, of $10,000 par, Des Moines Electric Company, 5 % , due 1938, a t 105, total £10,500. The book value of these bonds a t time of call was $10,013.84, leaving a profit of $486.16 which has been carried to the Reserve for Gains and Losses.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, this report was accepted. On motion of Mr. Cleary, the Finance Committee was authorized to invest $15,000 of endowment funds if suitable securities can be found. The Board resumed its consideration of matters presented by the President of the University.

J O H N S T O N E AND SINGH PATENTS (19) A report from the Secretary of the Board that he has received through Brown, Jackson, Boettcher, and Dienner, Attorneys, the assignment of Henry F . Johnstone and Alamjit D . Singh, transferring to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois the entire right, title, and interest in and to the inventions disclosed in their applications for United States Letters Patents, Serial Nos. 132,691 and 132,692, filed March 24, 1937, covering improvements in Combined Cooler and Scrubber, Case 2, and Process for Recovering Sulphur Dioxide from Waste Gases, Case 4.
