All of these cases have been reviewed by the Committee and none involves permanent disability, although one includes an allowance of $108.68 for time lost. Provision for such payments has been made in the budget for the current year.

On motion of Mrs. Plumb, the payment of these claims was authorized.

PURCHASES RECOMMENDED (30) A recommendation that the following purchases be authorized: 1. Lumber, one carload, including Red Oak, W h i t e Pine, Cypress, Douglas Fir, Maple, from the William C. Schreiber Lumber Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, at a price of $2,713. 2. Paper as follows: F o r the Extension Service: 140 reams 25 x 38—7o# " A " Grade English Finish Book Paper 700 reams 25 x 38—6o# ditto 150 reams 25 x 2 8 ^ — 4 5 * ditto 200 reams 25 x 38—8o# No. 2 Folding Enamel For the Office Supply Storeroom: x /z ton 25 x 38—7o# "A" Grade English Finish Book Paper 8 tons 25 x 38—6o# ditto 2 tons 25 x 2%Yi—45 # ditto 3 tons 25 x 38—8o# No. 2 Folding Enamel from the Dwight Brothers Paper Company, Chicago, at a price of $7,082.20, to be charged as follows: Extension Federal Bankhead-Jones $5,195.20, and $1,887.00 to Office Supply Storeroom revolving fund. T h e Dwight Brothers Paper Company is one of the five low bidders, and the samples submitted are better suited to the University's use than the others. 3. P y r e x Laboratory Glassware, 150 cases, for stock in the Chicago General Stores, from Schaar and Company, Chicago, at a price of $2,646. This is a non-competitive item which is sold only through jobbers at prices fixed by the Corning Glass Works, the only manufacturer of this type of laboratory glassware. 4. Repair parts for link belt peck carrier (used for handling coal at Power P l a n t ) from the Link Belt Company, the lowest bidder, at a price of $1,127.05. 5. F o r t y head medium quality feeder steers weighing approximately 800 lb., to cost approximately $8 per cwt. from Producers' Live Stock Commission Association, Live Stock Exchange Building, National Stock Yards (East St. Louis, Illinois), at a cost not to exceed $3,500.

On motion of Mr. Cleary, these purchases were authorized as recommended.

PURCHASES AUTHORIZED (31) A report of the following emergency purchases, amounting to $1,000 or over, authorized by the President of the University: 1. Seventy head of good to choice, medium fleshed, feeder steers weighing from 700 to 800 pounds at a probable price of $8.50 to $9.00 per hundredweight, from the Producers Commission Association of Kansas City at a total cost not to exceed $6,000 including freight to Urbana.

On motion of Mr. Mayer, this action was confirmed.

R E P O R T O F DEATH B E N E F I T S PAID (32) A report that the Comptroller has been authorized to pay the death benefits to the beneficiaries of the following members of the staff in accordance with the University Statutes and the terms of their employment: 1. J. F . Purkins, retired employee in the Physical Plant Department, who died March 26, 1937 $ 208 00 2. Elmer DeWitt Brothers, retired Lecturer in Medical Jurisprudence, who died April 6, 1937 . 73 50 3. E. Muriel Poggi, Associate in Geography, who died April 13, 1937.. I 175 00

On motion of Mr. Mayer, this action was confirmed.
