MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT CHASE The Board considered the following matters presented by the

President of the University.

LEAVE OP ABSENCE POR PROPESSOR P. T. YOUNG

(1) A recommendation that Associate Professor Paul T. Young of the Department of Psychology be given a sabbatical leave of absence on half salary for the year 1932-33, under the rules. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this leave w a s granted. A t this point, M r . Barr asked M r . Trees to take the chair.

SPECIAL. APPROPRIATION POR DEPARTMENT OP SOCIOLOGY

(2) A recommendation that an appropriation of $950, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to the Department of Sociology for field expenses for the year in the continuation of its study of crime which was begun last year and was continued through the summer. O n motion of D r . Noble, this appropriation w a s m a d e , b y the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barrett, M r . Blair, M r s . Hopkins, D r . Noble, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Williams.

APPROPRIATION POR UNIVERSITY COUNSEL.

(3) A recommendation that an appropriation of $400 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to supplement the expense and equipment fund of the University Counsel for the current academic year. O n motion of D r . Noble, this appropriation w a s m a d e , by the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barrett, M r . Blair, M r s . Hopkins, D r . Noble, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r s . Evans, M r s . Grigsby, M r . Williams. A t this point, M r . Barr returned and resumed the chair.

DEATH BENEPIT, ADAH PATTON

(4) A report of the death of Miss Adah Patton, Librarian, on October 7, 1931. She had been on the staff from February 1, 1908, until September 1, 1914, and again from Septemberi, 1920, to October 7,1931. The death benefit payable in this case is $1700. I recommend that an appropriation of $1700 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose and that the Comptroller be authorized to pay this amount to Miss Patton's designated beneficiary. O n motion of M r . Barrett, this recommendation w a s adopted. T h e appropriation w a s m a d e b y the following vote: A y e , M r . A r m strong, M r . Barr, M r . Barrett, M r . Blair, M r s . RECOMMENDATION FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OP A DEPARTMENT OP AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS

(5) A recommendation from the University Senate that the work in agricultural economics and allied work in the Departments of Farm Organization and Management, Economics, and Business Organization and Operation be combined in a new Department of Agricultural Economics to be administered in the College of Agriculture, the organization of this work to be as follows: A. The courses in Economics and in Business Organization and Operation dealing primarily with agriculture shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the College of Agriculture. B. The courses in Agronomy, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Husbandry, and Horticulture dealing with marketing and the courses in Farm Organization and Management shall be associated in the College of Agriculture with the transferred courses
