PURCHASE OF BARTO PROPERTY

(4) In accordance with the instructions of the Board of Trustees at the last meeting, the Supervising Architect has secured a contract from Miss Harriet T. Barto for the sale of the Barto property on Nevada Street at a price of $ 15,900. It will be necessary to have the deedfiledbefore the end of March to prevent the assessment of real estate taxes against the property and in order to do that the deal should be closed at this meeting. An appropriation of $ 16,000 will need to be made for this purpose. I concur in the recommendation for the purchase of this property and recommend that one-half of the amount be appropriated from the Residence Halls Reserve Fund and the other half from the Reserve and Contingent Fund. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, this purchase was authorized and the appropriation w a s m a d e , as recommended, b y the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r s . Evans, M r . Fisher, M r s . BUSWELL PATENT

Mr. Fisher, for the Committee on Patents, reported that Professor Buswell had stated that he did not desire to press his claim for the patent on cellulose digestion which he had assigned to the Board, and which the Board voted to reassign to him on payment of the amounts expended in the matter (Minutes, July 23, 1930, page 49). HI.LO-FOSFATE Mr. Fisher reported also a recommendation that the contract with the Urbana Laboratories for Hi-Lo-Fosfate be renewed for two years, with a provision that permission may be given to agricultural colleges and experiment stations to make or to use the solution for purely experimental or demonstration purposes. On motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was adopted. OIL—DUST S P R A Y Mr. Fisher reported also a recommendation that Professor Flint be authorized to apply for a patent (to be assigned to the University)

on his discovery of the use of oil-dust spray as an insecticide. O n motion of M r . Fisher, this recommendation w a s adopted.

APPROPRIATION F O R PATENTS Mr. Fisher reported for the Committee that an appropriation of #2000 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to the Patent Fund to discharge existing claims and to meet future requirements. On motion of Dr. Noble, this appropriation was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Hopkins, Dr. Noble, Mr. Simpson; no, none; absent, Mr. Barr, Mr. Blair, Mr. Emmerson, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Trees.
