LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR REXFORD N E W C O M B (5) I recommend that leave of absence on full salary for the second semester of this academic year, be granted Professor Rexford Newcomb under the rules of the Board. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this leave was granted. CHANGE IN STATUS OF PROFESSOR E. W. LEHMANN (6) Dean Mumford recommends that the status of Professor E. W . Lehmann, Head of the Department of Farm Mechanics, who was given a sabbatical leave of absence under the rules for a year, beginning September 1, 1928 (Minutes, April 12, 1928, page 585, and May 23, 1928, page 605), be changed to leave of absence without pay for thefirstsemester of the academic year. I concur in this recommendation. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was adopted. APPROPRIATION FOR REPRINTS OF MONOGRAPH ON THE C O L L E G E O F MEDICINE (7) At the request of Dean Davis, I recommend that an appropriation of $700 be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to purchase 5,000 reprints of an article on the University College of Medicine to be published soon by the Rockefeller foundation. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this appropriation was m a d e by the following vote: Aye, President Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r s . Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Dr. Noble; no, none; absent, M r . Blair, Mrs. Ickes, M r . Small, M r . Trees, M r . W a r d . CHANGE IN SOUTH PORCH OF UNIVERSITY HALL (8) Professor White reports that the south porch of University Hall is unsightly and expensive to maintain, as well as being objectionable in slippery weather. H e wants to make a grade entrance and put the stairs inside. I recommend that this matter be approved. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was approved. OFFER OF TENNESSEE PRODUCTS CORPORATION (9) The Tennessee Products Corporation of Nashville, Tennessee, has offered the University $1,000 to establish a research assistantship in thefieldof organic synthesis of compounds derived from carbon monoxide and hydrogen and other compounds of similar character. This is along the lines of the highpressure gas research started a year and a half ago. O n recommendation of Dean Daniels and Professor Adams, I recommend that this offer be accepted. O n m o t i o n of D r . N o b l e , this offer w a s accepted.
