P A T E N T OF PHOSPHATE PROCESS FOR PREVENTION OF EMBR1TTLEM E N T O F STEEL IN BOILERS (29) The Committee on Patents recommends that the Universityfilean application for the patent of a process for the prevention of embrittlement of steel in boilers through the use of phosphate, which has been developed by the Engineering Experiment Station in one of the cooperative investigations undertaken under agreement with the Utilities Research Commission. I a m informed that the cost of securing the patent will not exceed $ 1,000. I recommend that the application for a patent of this process be authorized and that an appropriation of $ 1 ,ooo, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose. (30) A statement concerning the Presidency of the University. O n request of President Kinley that the Board take steps looking toward the selection of his successor, and on motion of M r . Trees, the President of the Board of Trustees was requested to appoint a special committee of three members of the Board, to serve with himself, to consider the matter of selecting a successor to President Kinley on his retirement, and to make recommendations to the Board. President Armstrong later appointed the following members to serve with him on this committee: M r . Barr, Mrs. Busey, M r . Trees. PURCHASE O F DENTAL BUILDING B O N D S (31) The Comptroller reports that he has just received advice that the owners of $1,500 of six per cent bonds on the Dental Building due in 1932 would like to dispose of them, and requests that he be authorized to secure them i he can do so at par f or less and accrued interest. I concur in this recommendation and recommend that an appropriation of $1,530, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose.
