Mr. Barr withdrew during the discussion of this matter. O n motion of Dr. Noble, these regulations were adopted. SPECIAL APPROPRIATION FOR UNIVERSITY AUTOMOBILES (14) To carry out the plan contemplated by the regulations for the management and care of University-owned automobiles, I recommend that the following appropriations be made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund: For additional garage space $14 000 For a gasoline storage tank of car size, with measuring pump I 500 For insurance for one year against property damage or (and) public liability when University automobiles are involved (estimated) 1 800 $17 300 O n motion of Dr. Noble, the appropriation of $15,500 for garage space and storage tank was made, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mrs. Ickes, Dr. Noble, M r . W a r d ; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, M r . Blair, M r . Small, M r . Trees. GIFT O F D u P O N T DE N E M O U R S C O M P A N Y (15) A letter from the Vice-President of the D u Pont De Nemours Company informs me that the Company has renewed its gift of $750 for a fellowship in chemistry for the year 1928-29. This report was received for record. GIFT FROM THE WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY (16) Dean Ketchum reports that the Western Electric Company has offered to give to the Department of Mechanical Engineering a Brown and Sharpe automatic screw machine, valued at $350. I have authorized acceptance of this gift. This report w a s received for record. TIME LIMIT ON ACCEPTANCE OF APPOINTMENTS (17) I request that the Secretary of the Board be instructed to put in all notices of appointments to the staff a clause specifying that if acceptance of the appointment is not received within thirty days after the date of the notice the appointment shall become invalid and without effect, unless, for satisfactory reasons, the President of the University extends the period of acceptance. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation w a s approved. COMPTROLLER'S REPORT OF CONTRACTS A N D PURCHASE ORDERS (18) The following report from the Comptroller on contracts and purchase orders executed since the last report:
