of the Chicago Departments, be given a month's sick leave on full pay in addition to his regular month's vacation which has been arranged for during the month of December. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this leave w a s granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR ARNOLD EMCH (8) O n recommendation of Professor Townsend and Dean Daniels, I recommend that Professor Arnold Emch, of the Department of Mathematics, be given a sabbatical leave of absence during the year 1928-29, on one-half pay, under the rules. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this leave was granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR WOLFE (9) O n recommendation of Dean C. M . Thompson, I recommend that Associate Professor F. E. Wolfe of the Department of Economics be given leave of absence without salary for one year beginning February I, 1928/in order that he may accept an offer from a manufacturing company to make a study for their Economics Research Department, which, while of use to the company, will also promote Dr. Wolfe's professional worth. O n motion of Mrs. Grigsby, this leave was granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MR. PAUL E. JOHNSTON (10) O n request of Dean Mumford, I recommend that Mr. Paul E. Johnston, Associate in Farm Organization and Management, in Smith-Lever Extension, and in the Agricultural Experiment Station, be given leave of absence without salary from December 1, 1927, to June 30, 1928, in order that he may do some work for the United States Department of Agriculture during that time. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this leave was granted. PAYMENT OF ACCIDENT COMPENSATION TO M R . A. J. MCALLISTER (11) O n request of the Comptroller, I authorized him to accept a check in the amount of $195.67 from the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company on account of an accident to Mr. A. J. McAllister from the bursting of a boiler and to apply i toward payment of items recommended t for payment by the Committee on Accident Compensation. I request confirmation of this action. O n motion of M r . Barr, this action w a s confirmed. AMENDMENT OF REGULATIONS FOR ADMISSION (12) I submit a recommendation of the University Senate that the subjects of printing and auto mechanics be accepted for admission and included under the general subject of manual training (Group C of the entrance requirements), with the understanding that the total number of units in manual training now accepted toward admission (two) will not be increased. O n motion of M r . Blair, this recommendation w a s adopted. CLAYTON-BENNINGTON DRAINAGE DISTRICT,

WOODFORD COUNTY

(13) Some time ago the University received notice of a petition to organize a drainage district in Woodford County to be known as the Clayton-Bennington Drainage District, and that a hearing on said petition would be held on November 22, 1927, in the Courthouse at Eureka, Illinois. The University has an experimentfieldat Minonk, which is included in the proposed district. The Legal Counsel advised that the proposed drainage 'See action January 4, 1928, page 518.
