MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT KINLEY T h e Board considered the following matters presented by the President of the University. APPROPRIATION TO NATURAL HISTORY LIBRARY F O R BINDING (1) Professor Windsor, Librarian, reports that a good many volumes and pamphlets in the library of the Natural History Survey need binding, the money available for that purpose having been too small for several years. Therefore, I request an appropriation of $700 from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for binding periodicals and sets in the library of the Natural History Survey, recently transferred to the University. O n motion of M r s . Ickes, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Blair, M r s . Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Grigsby, Mrs. Ickes, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, Dr. Noble, M r . Small, M r . W a r d . DEATH BENEFIT FOR MRS. B. W. BENEDICT (2) Under the rules of the Board, a death benefit is due Mrs. Bruce W . Benedict, whose husband, Professor Bruce W . Benedict, manager of the shop laboratories, died on Monday, November 21, 1927. The Comptroller reports that the amount of this, under the rules, is $2,650. The period of service was fifteen years, the salary $5,300. I recommend an appropriation of $2,650 from the Reserve and Contingent Fund for this purpose. O n motion of Mrs. Evans, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Armstrong, M r . Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, M r s . Grigsby, Mrs. Ickes, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Barr, Dr. Noble, M r . Small, M r . W a r d . A t this point, M r . Barr and Dr. Noble took their places with the Board. L A B O R A T O R Y F E E S IN C E R A M I C S (3) O n request of Dean Ketchum, which has been endorsed by the Comptroller, I recommend that the following changes, effective the second semester of 1927-28, be made in the schedule of laboratory fees in the Urbana Departments for 1927-28 adopted by the Board in July, 1927: Drop fee in Ceramics 1 $2 00 Add the following fees: Ceramics 4 $2 00 Ceramics 7 2 00 Ceramics 14 5 00 Ceramics 18 2 00 These changes are necessary because of changes made last June in the curricula in Ceramic Engineering. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, these changes were made. FEE FOR DAIRY MANUFACTURES SHORT COURSE (4) Dean Mumford requests that the Department of Dairy Husbandry be authorized to assess a fee offivedollars a week for the mid-winter short course in Dairy Manufactures, which will cover four weeks, to meet the additional expense of the University in connection with this course, and that the receipts from the fees be appropriated as far as they may be required to meet special expenses of this course. I recommend approval.
