REQUEST OF ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION FOR PERMISSION T O P R O V I D E T E N N I S C O U R T S A N D ICE R I N K (3) Director Huff asks approval by the Board of Trustees of two projects to be undertaken and paid for by the Athletic Association: I. The acquisition of parcels of land located in various parts of Urbana and Champaign on which to build lawn tennis courts. The needs of the students will be met best i these courts are distributed through the residential districts. f 2. The construction of an artificial ice rink on University property, the location to be decided on by the Board of Trustees, at a probable cost of $225,000 to be paid for entirely by the Athletic Association. I recommend that the Board give general approval to these proposals, with the understanding that the Board of Directors of the Athletic Association will take the necessary action at the proper time, that the location, plans, etc., of the proposed ice rink be submitted beforehand for such action as the Board of Trustees thinks wise, and that it be further understood that approval of these projects, plans, etc., in no way obligates the University financially. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this recommendation w a s concurred in. RESIGNATION OF PROFESSOR H. 1_. SHANTZ (4) Professor H. L. Shantz, head of the Department of Botany, has submitted h s i resignation, to take effect as soon as the work of the present year can be properly and satisfactorily closed. I request authority to accept his resignation in accordance with his request. O n motion of M r s . Busey, this authority w a s granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR P. V. B. JONES (5) On recommendation of Professor Larson and Dean Babcock, I recommend that Associate Professor Paul V. B. Jones, of the Department of History, be given a sabbatical leave of absence on one-half pay during the year 1928-29, under the rules. O n motion of M r . Barr, this leave w a s granted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MR. WILLIAM H. BROWNE (6) On recommendation o Dean H. A. McGuigan, I recommend that Mr. William f H. Browne, Secretary of the College of Medicine, be given leave of absence with pay for two months beginning October 1, on account of illness. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this leave w a s granted.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MISS MADELINE HEATON

(7) Secretary Browne and Mr. Fletcher request that the leave of absence given to Miss Madeline Heaton, Cashier in the office of the Chicago Departments, at the meeting of M a y 21, (page 271) be extended until she is able to return to work, her absence to be without pay. I recommend that this leave of absence be granted. O n motion of M r s . Evans, this leave w a s extended. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR MISS ETHEL MAY KENT (8) On request of Director Windsor, I recommend that Miss Ethel May Kent, a Stenographer in the Order Department of the Library, be given a leave of absence without pay from September I to December I on account of illness. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this leave w a s granted. ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTOR IN LIBRARY SCHOOL (9) On request of Professor Windsor, I recommend that an additional instructor be added to the budget of the Library School, to provide for the increased enrollment (it is 104 this year as compared with 74 last year) for the year 1927-28, at
