LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR B U S W E L L (30) A recommendation that Dr. A. M . Buswell, Professor of Sanitary Chemistry, be permitted to leave for Europe on May 23. Doctor Buswell wishes to go abroad to study various European plants for the treatment of water and sewage. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this leave was granted. At this point, M r s . Ickes took her place with the Board. L E A V E O F A B S E N C E F O R MISS K A T H R Y N G. V A N A K E N (31) On recommendation of Dean Mumford, I recommend that Miss Kathryn G. Van Aken, Assistant Professor of Home Economics, and State Leader, Home Economics Extension, be given leave of absence, on account of il health, from March l 24, 1927, until September 1, 1927, under the following conditions: (1) That she be given full salary to March 24, 1927, in accordance with leave of absence given her as reported at the last meeting (page 224.). (2) That her salary from the Smith-Lever funds be discontinued as of March 24 in order to make funds available for the employment of temporary assistants to take care of the extension work. (3) That she be paid that portion of her salary which she receives from the College of Agriculture, which i $33.33% a month. s O n motion of M r s . Ickes, these recommendations were approved. LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR MISS MABEL A R N E S O N (32) On recommendation o Dean Davis, I recommend that Miss Mabel Arneson, f Assistant to the Secretary of the College of Medicine, who was given leave of absence on account of illness on f l pay from September 27, 1926, to January 1, 1927, ul be given additional sick leave for one month on full pay, and that she be given additional sick leave without pay to May 1, 1927. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this recommendation was approved. LANDSCAPING T H E C A M P U S Mrs. Ickes, for the special committee on the landscaping of the campus, made a report and requested an appropriation of $1,000 to meet the expense of a preliminary survey. O n motion of Dr. Noble, this report was received and the appropriation was made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, M r . Barr, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Ickes, Mr. Noble, Mr. Trees; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Grigsby, Mr. Small, Mr. Trees. ILLINOIS S C H O O L FOR NURSING (33) A statement concerning the proposal that the University take over the Illinois School for Nursing. D e a n Davis m a d e a statement concerning this matter. O n motion of Dr. Noble, the President of the University w a s authorized to inform the Citizens' Committee, through M r . Zimmer, Chairman, that the w a y does not seem clear legally for the University to enter into a contract of the kind necessary, and that therefore w e are not prepared to suggest any scheme, but that if the C o o k County board or its duly authorized representatives have any specific plan or scheme to present, the Board is willing to give it consideration. At this point M r s . Ickes retired.
