On motion of Mrs. Ickes, the Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. Petru of the position taken by the railroad officials, and to call his attention to the possibility of the use of the certificate plan by the students. MEMORIAL ON THE DEATH OF SENATOR WILLIAM B. MC KINLEY (19) As you all know, Senator McKinley passed away on December 7, a t r an fe illness of several months following an operation which he underwent last spring. In view of Senator McKinley's great interest in the University, as manifested by his generosity during his lifetime, and in view of the fact that he served on the University Board of Trustees at one time, it seemsfittingand proper that the Board of Trustees should pause in its business to pay its respect to his memory. I suggest that the following memorial be adopted and a copy be sent to Senator McKinley's family: In the death of Senator William B. McKinley the State of Illinois and the nation have lost a distinguished citizen, an able, high-minded, public-spirited statesman, and a supporter of good works. The University of Illinois has lost a generous benefactor and a great friend. Senator McKinley served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois from 1903 to 1905, and he was always greatly interested in its progress and welfare. The Board of Trustees hereby expresses its deep sorrow in his death, its sympathy with his family, and its great appreciation of hisfinecharacter and long and distinguished career in the service of the people. O n motion of M r s . B u s e y , this m e m o r i a l w a s adopted.

MEMORIAL ON THE DEATH OF HONORABLE SAMUEL A. BULLARD

(20) I wish to call the attention of the Board to the death on December 6 of Honorable Samuel A. Bullard of Springfield, a member of the Board of Trustees from 1889 to 1907, and as a tribute to his memory I suggest that the Board adopt the following memorial and a copy be sent to the members of his family: In the death of Samuel A. Bullard, a member of the Board of Trustees from 1889 to 1907, the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois has lost an honored former member and the State a distinguished citizen of great public spirit. His death came as a shock to his former associates on the Board and has deprived them and the University of one of its highly valued friends. H e was a m a n of great vision and both as a member of the Board and as an alumnus he rendered m a n y distinguished services to the University in various ways. The Board hereby expresseSj to his family its heartfelt sympathy in the loss of their father, its appreciation of hisfinecharacter and career of public service. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this memorial w a s adopted. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DIRECTOR HUFF O n motion of Mr. Armstrong, Director George A. Huff, in consideration of his long service without sabbatical leave, was granted sick leave, with full pay, for the rest of the academic year. PRESIDENT KINLEY'S LEAVE EXTENDED O n motion of Mr. Barr, the sick leave of President Kinley was extended to April 11, 1927. PURCHASE OF KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA PROPERTY Mr. Barr reported for the Committee on Buildings and Grounds a recommendation that the Kappa Kappa G a m m a property on Wright Street be purchased to protect the interests of the University.
