LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DEAN T. A. CLARK

(15) Dean T. A. Clark requests permission to be absent from M a y 28 to September 7, in order to go abroad for the summer. It is eleven years since he has had any lengthy vacation. I recommend approval of his request. O n motion of M r s . E v a n s , this request w a s granted.

APPROPRIATION FOR SENDING "AGRICULTURIST" TO HIGH SCHOOLS

(16) I recommend that the Board reconsider its action of January 17 whereby an appropriation of $850 was made from the Reserve and Contingent Fund to send the Illinois Agriculturist to high schools and assign the expenditure to the Agricultural College Extension FundO n motion of M r s . Ickes, this action w a s reconsidered, and the appropriation w a s cancelled. T h e President of the University w a s authorized to assign the expenditure to the appropriation for Agricultural College Extension. R E L E A S E O F P A N A SOIL E X P E R I M E N T FIELD (17) On November 15, 1924, the Board voted to discontinue the Pana Soil Experiment Field. The deed for the field stipulated that should the University cease to use the land for experimental purposes the title should revert to the former owners. The attorney for the donor requests that the Board of Trustees adopt a resolution authorizing the officers of the Board to execute a Quit Claim deed. O n recommendation of the Comptroller I recommend that the following resolution be adopted. W H E R E A S , the late John W . Kitchell and his wife, Mary F. Kitchell, of Pana, Christian County, Illinois, did on the 24th day of November, A. D., 1911, by their Warranty Deed, convey to the University of Illinois, the following described land, towit: Commencing in the north line of Section 15, T. 11 N. R. 1 E. 3rd. P. M., 1718 feet west of Northeast corner of Northwest Quarter of said Section 15; thence running easterly along said north line of said Section, 1652 feet; thence south 33 feet more or less to south line of said public highway; thence southerly on a line parallel with east line of said northwest quarter of said Section 740 feet; thence westerly on a line parallel with the said north line of said section 1652 feet more or less to the east line of the public highway laid out and dedicated to the public; thence north along the east line of said last mentioned highway 740 feet to the south line of said public highway along the north line of said section; thence north 33 feet more or less to the place of beginning, containing in all 29.31 acres more or less, situated in the County of Christian, and State of Illinois, which deed provided that when the grantee ceases to use the same for two years as an agriculture experiment station or whenever the grantee shall by proper method of renunciation or reconveyance declare the said premises are no longer desired for such purposes, then the title of the grantee unto the said premises shall thereupon forever cease and determine and shall revert to the grantors or the survivor, which deed was accepted by the said University of Illinois and recorded in the Recorder's office of Christian County, in Book 123 on page 538, and, W H E R E A S , the said University has completed all of the experiments which can profitably be made on this land and, therefore, said land ceases to be useful to the said University, T H E R E F O R E , B E IT R E S O L V E D by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, in a meeting regularly assembled, that it renounce all title and rights derived through and under said deed and does hereby direct the President and the Secretary of this Board of Trustees to execute and deliver to Mary F. Kitchell, the survivor of said grantors, a Quit Claim Deed reconveying to her allrightsin the said land, affixing the seal of the said University to the said deed and the officers and agents of the said University of Illinois are hereby directed to surrender up the possession of n motion of M r . W h a m , the same. O said land and forever abandon this resolution w a s adopted.
