Building Committee (2) M r . C. H . Meyer, representing Schmidt & Garden, Architects for the Medical Research Laboratory, appeared before the Executive Committee with two bids for excavating and pile driving for the Medical Research Library and Laboratory building. These bids were opened and found to be as follows: Geo. W . Jackson Sc Fitzpatrick Co.: Excavation, $1.45 per yard. Piles, .46 per lineal foot. Central Dredging Co.: L u m p sum bid of $10,192.00. As it will not be possible to award contracts for the remainder of the work on the building for another month, and as the bids received were considered to be reasonable the Architect was directed to "award the contract to that firm whose bid, under the circumstances, is most advantageous to the progress of the building."1 (3) A communication was received from Dr. A. H . Daniels, Dean of the Graduate School, recommending that the requirement that a candidate for the Doctorate deposit a bond as an alternative guarantee of the publication of his thesis be discontinued, and that a cash deposit of $75 be made an absolute requirement. Dr. Daniels stated that this matter had been discussed with President Kinley and had received his approval, but, owing to the absence of the President and the VicePresident, he was presenting it for the President as a matter on which immediate action is desired. was awarded to the Central Dredging Company. lrThis contract The Committee approved the recommendation.
