E X E C U T I V E C O M M I T T E E M E E T I N G . S E P T E M B E R 1. 1 9 2 2 T h e Secretary presented also for record the minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee, held in Chicago on September I, 1922A meeting of the Executive Committee was held in Chicago September 1, 1922. There were present O. W . Hoit and W . L. Abbott. Supervising Architect James M. White was also present. Business was transacted as follows: (1) The Executive Committee of the University of Illinois Memorial Stadium appeared and presented a written request (see accompanying letter) that the Board of Trustees approve the action of that Committee in directing the Athletic Association to award certain contracts for the construction of the Stadium, and also requesting that the Committee be given permission to run a temporary construction spur track from the Illinois Central right-of-way, across University property, to the Stadium site. The Executive Committee of the Board granted authority to the Athletic Association to enter into contracts as specified. T h e Executive Committee also gave the Stadium Committee permission to lay a spur track across University property, as requested, but subject to a contract to be drawn by the University Counsel, in which the University's rights would be safeguarded. Abbott, President, Board of Trustees University of Illinois Dear M r . Abbott: A s Secretary of the Executive Committee of the University of Illinois M e morial Stadium, I wish to advise that at a meeting of such committee, held in Chicago on this date, the following action was taken: (1) Accepted and approved the report of the Building Committee of such Stadium Executive Committee, a copy of which I hand you herewith. (2) Recommended to the Athletic Association of the University of Illinois that, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, it enter into contracts for the building of the Stadium with the following contractors, who were the lowest bidders on their respective work: General contract with English Bros $1,221,747 Plumbing—Walsh 4 Slattery 59,ooo Electric wiring — A. H . Barth Electric C o '4,998 Heating and ventilating—Sodemann Heat & Power C o 9,387 (3) Requested that the Board of Trustees give permission to lay a spur track from the Illinois Central Railroad to the Stadium site for the period of construction work upon the Stadium.
