On motion of Mrs. Blake, the minutes were approved as corrected and printed on pages 155 to 161 above,

The Board considered the' following matters submitted by the President of the University.

U N I V E R S I T Y DISTRICT LIGHTING SYSTEM (1) A letter from Professor J. M. White concerning the extension of the lighting system of Champaign into the University neighborhood. President David Kinley> 355 Administration Building

DEAR PRESIDENT KINLEY:

The University District Lighting System, upon which the hearing is to be held next Monday, borders the University property as follows: Starting on Fourth Street at the south end of College Place, extending thence northward to Armory Avenue, east to Wright Street, and north on Wright Street to Springfield Avenue. It will also bound our Vivarium site on three sides, and the hospital site on Armory Avenue on three sides, making a total frontage of about 6000 feet, at an estimated cost of about $1 a foot. If the lights are installed on the east side of Wright Street, as proposed, we will remove a dozen of our own standards and install them elsewhere on the campus. I am heartily in favor of the proposed lighting system. Yours very truly,

A P P R O P R I A T I O N FOR RENTAL. O F C H A M B E R OF C O M M E R C E LOTS (2) A recommendation that $1691.86 be transferred from the Reserve and Incidental fund and made available for payment of the rent on the lots on Armory Avenue according to contract made with the Chamber of Commerce of Champaign on October 4,1919.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, this recommendation was approved, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Ward: no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Small, Mr. Trimble.

P U R C H A S E OF LOT IN COLLEGE PLACE

(3) A recommendation from the Supervising Architect that a vacant lot in College Place, on the South side of Gregory Avenue, east of First Street, Champaign, be purchased. No property in this vicinity has been held at less than $1200.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, an appropriation of one thousand dollars was made for this purchase, and the matter was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with power to conclude
