BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[December 14,

On motion of Mr. Ward, it was voted that the Board hereby expresses its interest in and hearty approval of the movement to construct a stadium, and looks with favor on the proposal to have the matter pushed by the Athletic Association.

D E G R E E FOR MR. M A R T I N C R A N E (3) A recommendation of the University Senate that the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering be conferred on Mr. Martin Crane.

This degree was conferred.

CLOCK IN LIBRARY TOWER (4) A request from Professor J. M. White, Supervising Architect, for permission for the Junior class to purchase a clock to be installed in the Library tower. This clock will ring the Westminster quarters and the hours on the chimes. No dials will be installed.

This request was granted.

WALKING STICK M A D E FROM T H E WOOD OF T H E LINCOLN-DOUGLAS S T A T E HOUSE (5) A statement that Colonel Warren R. Roberts, a graduate in civil engineering in the class of 1888 and President of the Roberts and Schaefer Company, Engineers and Contractors, Chicago, desires to present to the University a walking stick made from a piece of black walnut taken from the main balustrade in the old Lincoln and Douglas State House in Springfield, to be added to the ox yoke made by the hands of Abraham Lincoln and the walking stick made from a piece of flooring taken from Lincoln's old home in Springfield, which are on exhibit in the library.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, this gift was accepted and the Secretary of the Board was instructed to convey to Colonel Roberts the appreciation of the Trustees.

C O N D I T I O N S FOR ACCEPTANCE OF LOANS TO M U S E U M S (6) A recommendation that authority be given to the President of the University to accept loans of articles of interest to University Museums in his discretion, subject to the condition, to be explicitly stated to the lender before the article is received, that while the University will take all reasonable care of the object loaned, it will not be responsible for its loss by fire, theft, or in any other way, and that in case of such loss it will not reimburse the lender; and a further recommendation that the President a ichc University be authorized to accept gifts of articles of similar nature.

On motion of Mrs. Blake, these recommendations were approved.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR NOLAN

(7) A recommendation that Mr. A. W. Nolan, Associate Professor of Agricultural Education, be granted leave of absence with pay during the month of January, because of the illness of his wife.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, this recommendation was approved.
