All holders of the Plym Fellowship who are candidates for the degree of Master of Science in Architecture are required to do at least one full calendar year's work for the degree. Eleven months shall be spent in Europe and the last month shall be spent in residence at the University of Illinois. Of the eleven months spent abroad at least eight months must be spent in some recognized atelier or school in Paris or in the American Academy in Rome; the month spent in residence at the University of Illinois is to be used for the completion of the thesis, the material for which has been collected during the study abroad.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, this recommendation was approved. At this point, at 1 p.m., a jecess was taken. AFTERNOON SESSION, DECEMBER 14, 1920 When the Board convened after the recess, the same persons were present as during the morning session. Mr. C. H. Thorne, Director of Public Welfare, was present during a part of the afternoon.

CONTRACTS FOR CLINICAL I N S T I T U T E

Director Thorne stated that he would not be able to go on with the building of the superstructure of the state hospitals and clinical institute (see page 110) unless contracts were authorized to cover the entire work, including the interest of the University ($300,000) in the group. On motion of Mr. Abbott, this matter was referred to the Exe^. cutive Committee with authority to enter into the necessary contracts, not to exceed a total expenditure of $300,000, including whatever may have been expended on the sub-structure from the University's funds under previous authorization, on terms which will safeguard the interests of the University.

APPROPRIATION FOR DIPLOMAS (9) A recommendation that $2700 be transferred from the Reserve and Incidental Fund and added to the appropriation for diplomas, to permit the return to the use of genuine sheepskin instead of paper.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Ward; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trimble.

LABORATORY FEES IN HOME ECONOMICS (10) A recommendation from the Council of Administration that a laboratory fee of $2 be established in Home Economics 7, beginning with the second semester, and that the fees in Home Economics 10 and 18 be discontinued.

These recommendations were approved.

INCREASE IN CLERICAL SALARIES (11) A recommendation that salaries of certain clerical employees be increased beginning January 1, 1921, according to the following schedule, and that $1650 be transferred from the Reserve and Incidental fund for this purpose.
