BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[October 16,

AFTERNOON SESSION, OCTOBER 16, 1919 When the Board convened on the afternoon of October 16, 1919, after the recess, the same persons were present as at the morning session* The Board continued its discussion of matters submitted by Acting President Kinley.

AMERICAN COUNCIL OF EDUCATION AMERICAN UNIVERSITY UNION IN EUROPE (8) A request for authority to take membership on behalf of the University in the American Council of Education or the American University Union in Europe.

On motion of Mr. Ward, the Acting President was authorized to take a membership in either organization or in both, as might seem desirable.

CONSTITUTIONAL STATUS OF T H E UNIVERSTY (9) A statement showing the provisions made in various state constitutions for the maintenance of the state universities, with a request for a statement of the opinion of the Board as to what measures should be taken on behalf of the University during the coming Constitutional Convention in Illinois.

This matter was discussed at length, but no action taken.

PROPOSED AFFILIATION OF SCHOOL FOR NURSES (10) A request from a school for nurses in Chicago that the school be made an affiliated organization of the University.

On motion of Mr. Trimble, this matter was referred to Acting President Kinley for investigation and report.

EMPLOYMENT OF CONSULTING ARCHITECTS

President Carr reported that in pursuance to an action Board (page 503) he had engaged the firm of Holabird and to act as consulting architects on the plans for the McKinley tal, the Horticulture Building, and the general development campus. On motion of Mr. Trimble, this action was approved.

Mrs. Blake presented a proposal from Mr. Warren P. Laird, of the University of Pennsylvania, to make a statistical survey of the probable development of the University, and to come to this University for a preliminary conference.
