BOARD OF TRUSTEES

In explanation of this recommendation I would say that Mr. Taft for the past two or three years has kindly come down to the University free of expense to us and has given a series of lectures on art. He has done this because of his love for his Alma Mater. It affords me great pleasure to recommend this appointment as a cordial recognition of his fine spirit, his great accomplishments, and his distinguished services. On m o t i o n of Mr. H o i t , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a d o p t e d unanimously.

LIGHTING SYSTEM ON LINCOLN AVENUE

(20) A recommendation that the Board of Trustees of the University accept an assessment of $1587.44 for an improved lighting system in Urbana on the line of University property on Lincoln Avenue. The assessment to be paid in annual installments by the Comptroller unless otherwise ordered. PAVING RACE STREET ROAD

(21) A recommendation of the Supervising Architect that the University do not make a contribution to help defray the cost of paving the Race Street road (see page 493).

No action was taken in this matter.

FEES IN T H E MUSIC SCHOOL

(22) The Director of the Music School, the Registrar, and the Comptroller unite in recommending the following revised schedule of special music fees. (Annual Register, pages 105-106). In addition to the above general fees students registering in courses in applied music (voice, piano, violin, violoncello, organ, or band instruments) pay special music fees as follows: For one lesson a week, $3.00; for two lessons a week, $5.00. Piano for practise one hour a day each semester, $3.00; additional hours at the same rate. Organ for practise one hour a day for one semester, $20.00; for one-half semester, $10.00. The name of the School of Music will need to be included in the list of colleges and schools under the heading of General Fees at the top of page 105,

On motion of Mr. Abbott, this recommendation was approved.
