On motion of Mr. Ward, this action was approved.

RETIRING ALLOWANCE FOR PROFESSOR NEWTON A. W E L L S

(15) A statement that Professor N. A. Wells is losing his eyesight and that it is already so far impaired as to make good work by him with students practically impossible. He has served us twenty years and ha» passed his sixty-seventh birthday. I recommend that Professor Wells be made Professor Emeritus and retired as of September 1,1919, on an allowance computed on the Carnegie basis, This means one-half the average annual salary for the past five years plus $400, and amounts to $1,680.

(16) A recommendation that Mr. A. W. Clevenger be appointed Assistant High School Visitor for one year beginning September 1, 1919, at a salary of $2,500 for the year. (17) A request for authority to accept resignations and to make appointments to fill vacancies, the same to be reported through the Secretary of the Board as usual. On motion of Mr. A b b o t t , t h i s a u t h o r i t y w a s given.

APPOINTMENT OF MR. A. T. BAICON

(18) A recommendation that Mr. Albert T. Bacon, C.P.A., be appointed a member of the Board of Examiners in Accountancy for a term of three years beginning July 1, 1919. Mr. Bacon was appointed in 1917 to fill an unexpired term.

This appointment was made.

APPOINTMENT OF LORADO TAFT AS NON-RESIDENT PROFESSOR OF ART

(19) On the recommendation of Dean Kendric C. Babcock, I nominate our distinguished alumnus, Mr. Lorado Taft, to the position of NonResident Professor of Art in the Department of Art and Design in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the position to be without salary by his own request.
