BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward. On motion of Mr. Abbott, the President of the Board and the Supervising Architect were instructed to recommend one or more consulting architects to the Board at its next meeting.

PURCHASE OF SANGIUL.IANI LIBRARY (3) A recommendation of the Senate Library Committee that the University purchase the library of the late Count Cavagna Sangiuliani, at present located at LaZelata, Province of Pavia, Italy, at a price of 150,000 lire, plus the cost of packing, and transportation. At the present rate of exchange, 150,000 lire will equal $19,850; the cost of boxing, cartage, freight, insurance, etc., will be about $2,500; the total amount needed to make this purchase therefore is $22,350.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, the purchase of this library was authorized and the sum of $25,000, or so much thereof as may be needed, was set aside out of the regular appropriation for the purchase of books for the next biennium. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward.

BUILDINGS FOR ARTILLERY AND CAVALRY UNITS (4) Plans for the construction of a building to house the horses and men to be assigned to the University in connection with the artillery and cavalry units, to be located south of the parade ground.

On motion of Mr. Abbott, the Supervising Architect was authorized to construct this building within the legislative appropriation of $25,000. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit; noes, none; absent) Mr. Blair, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward.

APPOINTMENT OF DEAN CHADSEY (5) A request for authority to offer Mr. Charles E. Chadsey, recently elected Superintendent of Schools in the city of Chicago, the position of dean of the College of Education at a salary of $6,000 a year.

The President of the University was authorized to tender Mr. Chadsey the deanship of the College of Education with a salary of $6,000.

ROBERT F. CARR FELLOWSHIP IN CHEMISTRY (6) An announcement that Mr. Robert F. Carr, President of the Board, had given the University ten thousand dollars in securities to endow the Robert F. Carr Fellowship in Chemistry.

On motion of Mrs. Evans, this gift was accepted with thanks. At this point, a recess until 3 o'clock p. m. was taken. AFTERNOON SESSION, JUNE 21, 1919 When the Board convened at 3 o'clock p. m. on Saturday, June 21, 1919, there was no quorum and a recess until 9 o'clock a. m. on Monday, June 23, 1919, was taken.
