M Y DEAR M R . MOREY

I was called upon today by Captain Yearous, representing Major A. T. Knight, of the Committee on Education and Special Training, Students Army Training Corps, for Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, located at Lewis Institute, Chicago. He inspected our Barracks and passed upon them favorably for occupancy. We expect to move in tomorrow. He called for a statement of expense so that in executing the contract between the University and the War Department, a correct estimate of expenditures could be incorporated therein. Do I understand that a separate contract for the Chicago schools must be made? If so, the following figures will be a guide in making up the per diem expense. (See page 176.)

On the basis of 370 men in the unit for 270 days, the cost per day, per man, would be about 26 cents per day, if we divide this grand total by the grand total number of days. The contract price for feeding the men will run between 65 and 70 cents per day. Regarding the tuition in the three schools, Captain Yearous suggested that a general average be made so that the rate charged would safely reimburse the Uni-
