LEASE OF ILLINOIS UNION BUILDING FOR MILITARY AERONAUTICS (9) A proposed lease of the Illinois Union Building for the use of the School of Military Aeronautics. May 16, 1918 President Edmund J. James, University of Illinois

M Y DEAR PRESIDENT J A M E S :

I am inclosing herewith a proposed lease between the University and the Illinois Union for the one building at No. 617-19 S. Wright Street, Champaign, for the use of the School of Military Aeronautics. The lease is approved by Dean Kinley as well as by Professor White, who is executing it as trustee of the Illinois Union. I would recommend that I be authorized by the Board of Trustees to execute this lease. Cordially yours,

LEASE T H I S I N D E N T U R E , Made this thirteenth day of May, 1918, between James M. White, Trustees of the Illinois Union, as lessor, and the University of Illinois, as lessee, Witn^ssetli as follows: That the said lessor hath this day leased to the said lessee the premises known as 617-619 South Wright Street, situated in the City of Champaign, in the County of Champaign and State of Illinois, to be occupied by said lessee for the uses of the School of Military Aeronautics, for and during the term of one month from; the fourteenth day of May A. D. 1918 to the fourteenth day of June A. D. 1918, and for so much longer as the lessee desires to use the building for the purpose aforesaid, the termination of said term to be thirty days after written notice by the lessee to the lessor of its election to discontinue its occupancy of the building, upon the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth ? and said lessee hereby accepts said lease upon said conditions, and covenants to perform the same as follows: First. The said lessee shall pay to the said lessor as rent for said premises the sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) upon delivery hereof for rent to the fourteenth day of June, 1918, and the further sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) upon the fourteenth day of each and every month thereafter during the continuance of the term hereby created, the same being monthly rent at the rate of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) payable monthly in advance at the office of James M. White, Trustees, 256 Administration Building, Urbana, Illinois. Second. Said lessee agrees to surrender the possession of said premises to said lessor upon the termination of the term above created, and further agrees to make all changes and betterments necessary to be made inside the building for the purposes for which the said building is to be used, and further agrees to maintain and keep the same in as good condition and repair as the same shall be upon taking possession thereof, natural wear, injury by fire or other inevitable accidents excepted,
