SALE OF NEVINS'S HISTORY OF T H E UNIVERSITY

(8) A statement that the University has handled a certain number of the copies of Allan Nevins's History of the University of Illinois for the Oxford University Press. We have sold these books at retail for $2.00 and accounted to the Oxford University Press for them at $i.33'^3, leaving a profit of $.66^ on each volume, less the cost of postage. I recommend that with the profits from this sale copies of this History be purchased from the Oxford University Press and sent to the high schools in this state and other states that have adequately organized and administered libraries. On motion of Miss Watson, the President of the University was authorized to follow this policy.

GIFT OF DIRECTORY AND ALUMNI RECORD TO HIGH SCHOOLS

(29) A request for authority to send copies of the University of Illinois Directory (1916) and the Alumni Record (1913) to high schools that have adequate library facilities. On motion of Mr. Blair, this request was granted.

PRESIDENT JAMES'S BILL FOR TRAVELING EXPENSES

(30) The bill of the President of the University for traveling expenses incurred on University business from July 1, 1915, to January 1, 1918. On motion of Miss Watson, this bill was referred to the Executive Committee with power to audit and to order paid if found correct.

WAGES OF JANITORS AND GROUNDS' MEN

(31) A recommendation from Professor James M. White, Supervising Architect, that an additional increase in wages be granted to certain janitors and grounds' men in the employ of the University to begin March I, 1918, and that a total increase in the pay roll of $13 a day be authorized. The advance will apply to sixty-seven persons and will be an average increase of one and one-half cents an hour. On motion of Mr. Carr, this recommendation was approved.

RESIGNATION OF DR. PHELPS—APPOINTMENT OF MISS WHITSON

(32) A statement that Dr. Vergil V. Phelps left the employ of the University on February 1, 1918. As he was entitled to a month's vacation, his salary will stop on February 28, 1918. I have appointed Miss Anne V. Whitson as private secretary to the President, until further notice, at a salary of $1,700 a year. On motion of Mrs. Evans, the action of the President in this matter was approved.
