UNIVERSITY PAGEANT

The following statement: It will be remembered that at the time the Board decided to hold a celebration of the semi-centennial of the opening of the University, authority was given (page 196) to employ Mr. Langdon as lecturer on community festivals, and organizer, conductor, and writer of the University pageant, at a salary of $5,000 for the thirteen months from October 1, 1917, to November 1, 1918. In accordance with this authority, a contract was made with Mr. Langdon on this basis. It seems impossible to carry out the celebration unless peace should come early in the spring. I am asking that my action in this matter be approved and that the sum of $1,000 be appropriated as a revolving fund to provide expenses for the preparing and carrying out of these celebrations in such a way as to make them possible units of a larger presentation. On motion of Mr. Carr, the action of the President was approved, and the appropriation made. The vote was as follows: Aye, President Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Taggart, Miss Watson; no, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett, Mr. Trimble, Mr. Ward.
