extraordinary expense which was occasioned to the University by the establishment and development of the school. W e are keeping accurate account of the expenses which this school has entailed on the University, and we hope that, in accordance with the first informal statement, the Government will reimburse the University for these extraordinary expenditures. W e are proud and glad to have the school here. W e are much in earnest to meet the wishes of the Government in the most complete way, so as to make the school one of the best among similar institutions in the country. Under the authority given me by the Board, I expect to work away at this problem until it is solved to the satisfaction of the Government and the University. SITE FOR C L I N I C A L BUILDING The following statement: On January 24, 1917, the Board authorized and directed the Executive Committee to acquire a site for a Clinical Building as soon as possible and to proceed with the preparation of plans for such a building. On February 21, 1917, President Abbott reported that the Executive Committee was engaged in the purchase of land for a site for the Clinical Building and that the Committee intended to complete this purchase within a short time. On March 13, 1917, the President of the University presented a plan for a Clinical Building for the College of Medicine to be located on Wood Street in Chicago, immediately south of the property now held by the School of Pharmacy. The Chairman of the Executive Committee reports as follows: "1 now have to report the purchase of two pieces of property in the Pharmacy School block in Chicago, described as follows: <"N. E. C O R N E R W . P O L K A N D S O U T H W O O D STS., known as 1756 and 1758 W . P O L K ST., consisting of three-story and basement brick building and ground 50 feet on W . Polk St. and 115.19 feet on Wood St., described as Lots 4 and 5 in Eisenstein's Subdivision of Lots 1, 2, 3, and 4 and South 15 feet of Lot 5 in Carpenter's Resubdivision of W y> of Block 5 in Assessor's Division of E y2 of S E J/& Section 18—39—14/ "Total cost, including commissions and incidentals, $14,258.33. " ' L o t s 72i-y2S-y2S South Wood Street W front 140.19 feet N of Polk Street, consisting of three-story and basement brick building and ground 60 x 125 feet to IJ1/^ alley described as Lots 7 and 8 and the North 10 feet of Lot 6 in Resubdivision of W y2 of Block 5 in Assessor's Division of E y2 S E % of Section 18—39—14.' "Purchase price, including commissions and incidentals, $16,992.08. "Seven thousand dollars ($7,000.00) has already been paid on the first mentioned piece of property, the balance being represented by a mortgage which had previously been placed on the property. It is proposed to pay off all the indebtedness on this piece of property and to make a payment of about $10,000.00 on the other piece, the remainder of it to be carried on a (12)
