of Illinois, on the corner of Wright and Green Streets, to be used by the party of the' first part as the Y. M. C. A. headquarters in such manner as they deem best. In the matter of repairing the building and so maintaining it the party of the second part will charge to the party of the first part any sum over $5,000, which it may cost to do this work, which excess of expenditure beyond $5,ooo, the party of the first part agrees to pay. This amount to be due and collectible at the expiration of this lease. In the matter of the occupation of the building known as the President's House the party of the second part agrees to maintain this building but not to provide the janitor service. And it is further understood and agreed, that the covenants and agreements contained in the within lease shall be binding upon the parties hereto, their legal representatives and assigns. In witness whereof, the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals, the day and year first above written.

On motion of Mr. Carr, this contract was approved and the Supervising Architect was instructed to keep the Y. M. C. A. building in proper condition.

ENLARGEMENT OF SCHOOL OF AERONAUTICS

The following statement: I have received notice from the Commandant of the School of Military Training that the Government desires in a short time to increase the number of students in the School of Aeronautics to 520. This would necessitate the use of the Women's Residence Hall as barracks for the aviators, as authorized by the Board of Trustees. We have had many annoying incidents connected with the location of the School of Military Aeronautics here, growing out of the fact that the University had no adequate dormitory building and no adequate mess accommodations for such large numbers. The Government has been feeling its way in the establishment and development of these schools. Its representatives have not been authorized to speak always with definiteness; they have found it necessary sometimes to revoke their orders, often causing us serious embarrassment. The tuition account has been settled up to September 30, 1917. The University has already expended about $1,000 more than it is entitled to receive under its ; tuition contract. This payment does not meet any of the
