mortgage which will be placed before the property is transferred to the University. I ^ a m therefore asking for an appropriation of $17,000.00 on account of these purchases/' This purchase secures for the University the entire west front of South Wood Street between Flournoy and Polk Streets with the exception of a single lot 25 feet wide lying between the two properties. T h e Executive Committee proposes to acquire this lot also either by purchase or condemnation.

On motion of Mr. Carr, the action of the Executive Committee in purchasing these properties was referred to the Board with the recommendation that it be approved. At this point, the Executive Committee took a recess for luncheon. AFTERNOON SESSION, OCTOBER 20, 1917 When the Executive Committee was called to order on the afternoon of Saturday, October 20, 1917, at the University Club, in Urbana, after luncheon, the same persons were present as during the morning session.

The Executive Committee continued its consideration of matters submitted by the President of the University.

(13) A Law, for semester the year of seven LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR POMEROY request from Professor John Norton Pomeroy, of the College of leave of absence on one-half pay from the beginning of the second of the year 1917-1918 to the beginning of the second semester of 1918-1919. This is the customary leave of absence after a service years, though Professor Pomeroy's service has been longer.

On motion of Mr. Carr, the President of the University was given authority to grant this leave of absence if he can arrange for Professor Pomeroy's work during his absence.

RECEIPTS FROM SMITH FARMS (14) A report from Professor J. G. Mosier of the receipts and disbursements from the Smith Farms for the past six months. The statement that the St. Joseph F a r m had been leased for the year to Mr. L. A. Coffey in place of Mr. C. J. Foltz was made.
