PURCHASE OF SITE FOR UNIVERSITY F*R£#S

(1$) A letter^from (the Comptroller concerning the purchase of the property a t 806 South Sixth Street as a site for the University Press: / July 16, 1917 President Edmund J. James, University of Illinois

MY DEAR PRESIDENT JAMES:

I beg to report concerning the status of the property at 806 South Sixth Street, which the Board of Trustees on June 7, 1917, (page 333), directed be purchased. An investigation of the title to this property indicated some doubt as to the ability of the present bishop of the church to make proper conveyance. An effort has been made, therefore, to secure a deed from the former bishop of the church which would make the succession adequate. Efforts in this direction to date have failed> but it is expected that the matter can be cleared up within a short time. Cordially yours,
