(b) The University salary shall cease as soon as the persons concerned go on the Federal, State, or other pay roll for such service. Persons leaving the University under these conditions, whose services at the University have been entirely satisfactory, will be given preference in considering new appointments when they again become available for university service and the University is seeking men for positions. 2. Persons on definite appointment for two years or more may be granted the same privileges as those on annual appointment. 3. They may also be granted for the same purpose leave of absence, without pay, from September 1, 1917, until the close of their terms of appointment with the same consideration for reappointment. 4. Persons on indefinite tenure may enjoy the same privileges as those on annual appointment, and may be given leave of absence without pay from September 1, 1917, until the close of the war or until they are honorably discharged from the approved service in the national defense in which they have been engaged. Their positions will be held open for them and they may resume such positions on satisfying the President of the University of their physical and other ability to discharge the duties of the positions as satisfactorily as they did before taking leave of absence.

On motion of Mr. Carr, these regulations were adopted.

NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF PHARMACY (3) A communication from the President of Northwestern University, Dr. Thomas F . Holgate, to the effect that Northwestern University is considering the closing of its School of Pharmacy and will probably take this step if the University of Illinois can take over into its School of Pharmacy such students as desire to transfer to that School, and also if the University of Illinois will take over two members of the faculty, Mr. Maurice A. Miner, Professor of Pharmacy, at a salary of $2000, and Mr. H a r r y M. Gordin, Professor of Chemistry, whose salary is $2700.

On ,motion of Mr. Carr, this matter was referred to the President of the University with power to act.

PHARMACY AND GOVERNMENT SERVICE (4) A letter from Mr. W . B. Day, Acting Dean of the School of Pharmacy, in regard to the possibility of service to the Federal Government in the present war.
