year v igi6-i7, at a salary of $1,000 for the semester, payable in five installments of $200 each, beginning March 1, 1917.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, these appointments were mack.

ASSISTANT IN REFRACTION WORK (39) A request from the Senior Dean of the College of Medicine that a paid assistant be employed to do refraction work in the eye department of the Dispensary of the College of Medicine, at a salary of $50 a month.

On motion of Mr. Carr, this recommendation was approved and the President of the University was authorized to appoint such an assistant. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Ward; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson.

LAND FOR TARGET RANGE (40) A statement that the National Defense Act of last June, and the regulations adopted by the W a r department under the said act, require the students who enter the Reserve Officers' Training Corps to go into camp for a certain length of time, and to have access to a target range. With the consent of the Board, I am proposing to ask the Legislature for an appropriation to purchase land for a suitable camp field and target range, the use of which may be shared, if necessary, with the National Guard.

This plan was approved.

APPOINTMENTS TO COMMITTEES

The Secretary reported for record that the President of the Board had appointed Mr. Taggart a member of the committees on Agriculture and Finance, in place of Mr. Small, and Mr. Hoit Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture.

RESOLUTIONS, WOMEN'S CLUBS

The Secretary presented also for record the following resolutions adopted by the six federated clubs of Champaign and Urbana:

W H E R E A S , the success of the annual meeting of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs depends largely upon local conditions, such as large and commodious quarters for the sessions and conferences, combined with the interesting and inspiring entertainment provided for the enjoyment and pleasure of the delegates while in attendance, and the provision of comfortable lodging for them in hospitable homes, with transportation to the same; and W H E R E A S , these conditions were so satisfactorily complied with, through the various courtesies of many individuals and organizations during the twenty-second annual meeting of the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs held in the Auditorium of the University of Illinois, November 14-16; therefore be it
